Purple Aeonium Succulent - Aquamarkers by GeeMassamArt Purple Aeonium Succulent - Aquamarkers by GeeMassamArt
WATCH my YouTube TIME-LAPSE VIDEO of this painting: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwyLVT…

This is a purple Aeonium succulent plant from Bodnant Gardens, Wales, 'painted' using Letraset Aquamarkers, (water-based ink markers).
I pencilled it out and then used 5 markers to do the whole piece, again, starting with background leaves. I painted each petal separately and used a lot of 'backruns' on them, (clean drops of water onto still-wet paint and letting it spread/run).
It is all marker and water, then washed about with synthetic brushes.

Leaves: 'Fern Green', 'Citrus' & 'Sunburst Yellow' markers.
Flower petals: Mostly 'Peacock Blue,' & 'Raspberry' with some of the markers mentioned above.

Thanks! Yeah, trying to shake off a virus that's been hanging round for a while - I just want it gone!!! It's put me in a low ebb, which is not usually me. Thanks for the kind words on my gallery, though :D

Oh my goodness I love this. Succulents hold a special place in my heart, and this one is no exception. I really love the contrast between green and purple in this piece. And the shading in this is wonderful, and I really like the white halo around the succulent's leaves.

Wow, this is amazing! The colours itself are beautiful, and I just love this watercolours effect with the wet in wet technique. Looks great how the colours are mixing up on the inner petals :)

Great . And good for me, cause I have a bit problems with the wet-in-wet -technique. Thanks a lot for sharing!!! :huggle:

:D thanks! I've noticed 2 different techniques, adding drops to really wet paint (top left petals) and adding drops to almost dry paint (bottom right corner petals). The latter way gives you slightly harder-edged 'bloom' type effect.

Oh I was saying that as a good thing. I guess what you should really take away from this is that even if you fail to create what you wanted to, you will succeed in creating something else. So nothing to fear C:
